The epithelial cell membranes and oropharyngeal mucosa constitute the specialized tissue lining of the oropharynx, serving as the primary interface between the external environment and the upper digestive and respiratory tracts. Consequently, drugs interacting with this region often aim to modulate barrier integrity, provide symptomatic relief through nerve blockade, or eradicate surface-level pathogens. The integrity of this mucosal layer is vital for preventing systemic entry of pathogens and maintaining local homeostasis.
