Epithelial healing promotion

01

Overview

"Epithelial healing promotion" refers to the enhancement of the natural biological process known as epithelialization. This process involves coordinated cellular and molecular activities—primarily keratinocyte migration, proliferation, and differentiation—to restore damaged epithelium after injury. It is regulated by multiple signaling molecules including cytokines and growth factors such as epidermal growth factor (EGF), transforming growth factor alpha/beta (TGF-α/β), hepatocyte growth factor (HGF), keratinocyte growth factor (KGF), interleukin 1 (IL-1), and others. Matrix metalloproteinases also play key roles in remodeling extracellular matrix during this phase. While many therapeutic agents aim to promote epithelial healing by targeting these pathways, "Epithelial healing promotion" itself does not refer to any single protein, gene product, receptor, enzyme or other canonical drug target.[1][2][4] In summary, "Epithelial healing promotion" describes an important wound-healing phase but is not itself a molecular target suitable for structured pharmacological classification.
