Overview

EPM2A divergent transcript (EPM2A-DT) is a long noncoding RNA gene located in proximity to the EPM2A gene. It is sometimes annotated under aliases such as FBXO30-DT or FBXO30 divergent transcript. Unlike EPM2A/laforin, EPM2A-DT does not encode a protein and has no established molecular function, disease association, or role as a therapeutic target. There is a risk of confusion with the much better-studied EPM2A protein (laforin), which is involved in glycogen metabolism and Lafora disease. As of this writing, no functional, pathological, or pharmacological information is available for EPM2A-DT in peer-reviewed literature or major gene databases[9]. Key caution: EPM2A-DT is not the same as EPM2A/laforin. If the intent was to refer to the therapeutic target laforin, use “EPM2A glucan phosphatase, laforin”; EPM2A-DT itself is not recognized as a target and appears functionally uncharacterized[9].
