Overview

LMP1 mRNA is the messenger RNA transcript produced by the Epstein–Barr virus (EBV) that codes for latent membrane protein 1 (LMP1), one of the principal viral oncoproteins essential for EBV-mediated transformation of B cells and implicated in the pathogenesis of several human cancers, including nasopharyngeal carcinoma and lymphomas[1][4][5]. LMP1 mRNA serves as the template for the synthesis of LMP1 protein, which acts as a constitutively active mimic of human TNF receptor proteins and activates multiple cell signaling pathways (e.g., NF-κB, PI3K/AKT, MAPK), resulting in altered cell proliferation, survival, immune modulation, and tumorigenesis[4][5][7][8]. Therapeutic strategies targeting LMP1 mRNA utilize antisense or RNA interference approaches to block oncogenic protein production in EBV-associated diseases.
