Epstein-Barr Nuclear Antigen 1

Molecular classification
Transcription factor, Viral protein
01

Overview

Epstein-Barr nuclear antigen 1 (EBNA1) is a multifunctional, dimeric DNA-binding protein encoded by the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). It is essential for the replication and maintenance of the viral episome during latent infection and is consistently expressed in all EBV-associated tumors. EBNA1 is unique as it is the only EBV protein found in every form of EBV latency, making it a critical marker and therapeutic target for EBV-related malignancies.
