Epstein-Barr Virus Antigen-Expressing Cell (EBV Antigen-Expressing Cell)

EBV Antigen-Expressing Cell
Molecular classification
Cell, Virus-infected cell, B lymphocyte, Epithelial cell
01

Overview

An Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) antigen-expressing cell is any cell that expresses one or more antigens derived from the Epstein-Barr virus. These cells, primarily B lymphocytes and epithelial cells, are critical in the pathogenesis of EBV-associated diseases and represent targets for therapeutic intervention. The specific antigens expressed depend on the phase of infection (lytic or latent) and the latency program active in the infected cell. Key viral antigens include EBNAs (especially EBNA1 and EBNA2), LMPs, and tegument protein BNRF1. Targeting these cells aims to reduce viral load, control EBV-associated malignancies, and modulate the immune response to prevent disease progression.
