The Epstein-Barr virus-derived peptide antigen–HLA class I complex refers to antigenic peptides generated from EBV proteins that are processed within infected or transformed cells and loaded onto HLA class I molecules in the endoplasmic reticulum. These complexes are transported to the cell surface, where they are recognized by CD8+ cytotoxic T lymphocytes, enabling the immune system to detect and destroy EBV-infected or malignant cells expressing viral proteins. The ability of HLA class I molecules to present EBV peptides is highly polymorphic and influences susceptibility and immune response efficacy in EBV-related diseases. The complex is not a therapeutic target in the traditional sense, but an immunological entity that underpins many immunotherapy approaches for EBV-associated malignancies and infections[1][2][3][5][9].
