EBV surface antigens" is an umbrella term for a group of glycoproteins and related proteins expressed on the surface of the Epstein–Barr virus or on cells infected during lytic reactivation. It does *not* denote a single molecule or clearly defined protein target, but includes multiple structurally and functionally distinct molecules such as glycoprotein B (gB), glycoprotein H (gH), glycoprotein L (gL), gp350/220, and others[1][6][8]. These surface antigens are responsible for viral entry, immune recognition, and host cell infection processes. Antibodies against EBV surface antigens (e.g., VCA, gp350/220, gB) are used in serological diagnosis of EBV infection and monitoring. However, "EBV surface antigens" is not a standard molecular target name and is considered too broad for structured target databases; specific antigens or glycoproteins (e.g., "Epstein–Barr virus glycoprotein B", "Epstein–Barr virus envelope glycoprotein gp350") should be cited instead for drug targeting or mechanistic studies. The term may signify an entire functional class rather than a unique molecule, making it an incorrect or insufficiently specific entry for a molecular target field[1][6][8].
