Overview

ERI1 exoribonuclease family member 2 (abbreviated as ERI2) is an evolutionarily conserved 3′–5′ exoribonuclease belonging to the DEDDh family of nucleases[1][3]. It plays a crucial role in the processing and turnover of rRNA, particularly the 3′ end processing of 5.8S ribosomal RNA, as well as in the degradation of replication-dependent histone mRNAs[1]. ERI2 also participates in various small RNA regulatory pathways, including the regulation of endogenous siRNA and miRNA abundance, highlighting its central role in both transcriptional and post-transcriptional gene regulation[1]. It uniquely features a SAP domain important for nucleic acid binding and is present across diverse eukaryotic species. There are no established therapeutic drugs targeting ERI2 or recognized disease biomarker or safety concerns; most research to date has focused on its basic cellular and molecular biology[1][3].
