Overview

ERICH3 antisense RNA 1 (ERICH3-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA gene found on human chromosome 1. Its expression is strongly upregulated in gastric cancer tissues. Higher ERICH3-AS1 expression predicts poor prognosis, shorter disease-free survival, and earlier recurrence. While its exact mechanism is not fully understood, gene expression and pathway analyses demonstrate that high ERICH3-AS1 expression is associated with enrichment of key cancer signaling cascades (ERBB, MAPK, MTOR, p53, and Wnt) and gene products related to apoptosis (e.g., BCL2L10, CASP14), cell cycle (CDK14), and invasion/migration (MMP20, MMP26, MMP27). ERICH3-AS1 itself is not a protein nor does it encode one, making it a regulatory element rather than a classical therapeutic target; its relevance is primarily as a prognostic biomarker and as a possible modulator of tumorigenesis through control of critical cellular processes.
