ERO1-like pseudogene

The ERO1-like pseudogene is a nonfunctional genomic sequence with similarity to the ERO1-like gene family. Pseudogenes are defined by the presence of disabling mutations (such as frameshifts or stop codons) or the absence of necessary gene regulatory elements, rendering them incapable of producing functional protein. Pseudogenes can occasionally regulate gene expression through RNA-mediated mechanisms, but most—such as ERO1-like pseudogene—lack evidence for functional protein or biological activity[7][1][3]. Pseudogenes sometimes complicate genetic analysis in diagnostics since their sequences can be mistaken for their functional counterparts[4]. There is no evidence that the ERO1-like pseudogene is a therapeutic target or has biomarker value[4][7][1].
