Erythrocyte membrane protein band 4.1-like 2 (EPB41L2) is a protein-coding gene belonging to the protein 4.1 family, principally involved in cytoskeletal structural integrity. The protein plays a role in organizing the actin cytoskeleton, promoting localization of proteins to the cell cortex, and is required for recruitment of dynein-dynactin and NUMA1 complexes during mitosis. In the nervous system, 4.1G (EPB41L2) serves as a signal for proper myelin formation, and also participates in cell adhesion and spreading. Mutations or aberrant expression have been linked to certain tumors, particularly Petrous apex meningioma and some forms of congenital nephroma. Currently, EPB41L2 is not a known direct therapeutic target and no approved drugs are known to interact with this protein.
