Target intelligence / Profile preview
The ESAT6-CFP10 fusion protein is a recombinant antigen composed of Early Secretory Antigenic Target 6 (ESAT-6) and Culture Filtrate Protein 10 (CFP-10) from Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It is used in skin tests and interferon-gamma release assays (IGRAs) to diagnose latent or active TB infection due to its high specificity and lack of cross-reactivity with BCG vaccination or most environmental mycobacteria. The fusion protein retains immunogenic properties that stimulate T-cell responses specific to M. tuberculosis infection and is considered a major virulence factor.
Stimulates T-cell mediated immune response in individuals previously exposed to Mycobacterium tuberculosis, leading to IFN-gamma production or skin induration.
