Target intelligence / Profile preview
Escherichia coli polysaccharide antigens encompass the capsular polysaccharides (K antigens) and the lipopolysaccharides (O antigens). These surface structures are critical for bacterial survival, virulence, and interaction with the host immune system. O antigens define E. coli serogroups and are involved in immune recognition. K antigens form a protective capsule providing resistance to host defenses. Both O and K antigens are important targets for vaccine and antibody-based therapies.
Antibodies targeting polysaccharide antigens can neutralize bacteria, opsonize them for phagocytosis, or activate complement. Vaccines stimulate the production of these antibodies.
