Esophageal mucosal regeneration refers to the restoration of the esophageal mucosal layer and supporting tissues after injury, disease, or surgical intervention. This process may be supported by regenerative medicine strategies, such as implantation of scaffolds (with or without cells), bioengineered tissue, or application of stem cells, to promote the formation of new epithelial, muscular, and vascular tissues. Key molecular pathways implicated in this regenerative process include HGF/c-MET, NGF/TrkA, PI3K/Akt, and various cytokine signaling cascades[3]. Clinical and preclinical studies have shown that engineered implants can facilitate rapid neovascularization, epithelialization, and functional restoration of the esophagus[1][2][4][5][6]. However, "esophageal mucosal regeneration" is not itself a molecular entity or canonical therapeutic target, but an intended outcome of interventions aiming to repair esophageal tissue following injury or resection.
