Overview

Espin pseudogene (ESPNP) is a pseudogene derived from the espin (ESPN) gene. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but are nonfunctional due to mutations or lack of proper regulatory elements. ESPNP does not encode a functional protein and is not involved in known physiological or pathological processes. Unlike the functional ESPN gene, which encodes an actin-bundling protein essential for hair cell stereocilia and is associated with sensorineural deafness, ESPNP is not a therapeutic target and carries no drug or biomarker associations[4][5].
