Estrogen receptor-binding fragment-associated antigen 9 (EBAG9) is a gene and its encoded protein identified as a downstream target of estrogen signaling, especially in cancer cells. Its transcription is regulated by the estrogen receptor binding to a responsive element in EBAG9's promoter region. The resulting protein is a tumor-associated antigen, often overexpressed across different tumors and has been considered as a diagnostic or prognostic marker in cancer progression[1][3][11]. EBAG9 is not a receptor, enzyme, or transporter but rather belongs to the class of cell surface or intracellular antigens involved in tumor biology. It has alternate splicing forms and a pseudogene, and interacts with estrogen-regulated pathways, particularly in hormone-sensitive cancers. Its role is mainly as a cancer biomarker, with possible utility in future antibody or immunomodulatory therapies[1][3][11].
