ETS domain-containing transcription factor ERF (ERF)

Target
ERF
Molecular classification
Transcription factor, ETS family
01

Overview

**ETS domain-containing transcription factor ERF** is a member of the ETS family of transcription factors that acts as a strong transcriptional repressor[1][2]. It binds ETS-binding sites (EBS) in gene promoters and suppresses the transcriptional activity of ETS gene activators. ERF negatively regulates the oncogenic activity of other ETS factors and can suppress certain tumorigenic pathways. Its activity is modulated by phosphorylation, especially via the MAPK/ERK signaling pathway, linking it to cellular responses to mitogenic stimulation and cell cycle transitions. Alteration of ERF function or regulation contributes to tumorigenesis and dysregulation of cell proliferation[1][2][3][4].
