ETS variant transcription factor 5 (ETV5) is a member of the E26 transformation-specific (ETS) family of transcription factors. It is encoded by the ETV5 gene on chromosome 3q28 in humans. ETV5 is generated in Sertoli cells of the testes where it plays a critical role in spermatogenesis. ETV5 is also recognized for its function in transcriptional regulation in immune cells, notably promoting follicular helper T cell differentiation and influencing osteopontin expression, which has been implicated in the pathogenesis of lupus. Several lines of research associate the orthologs of ETV5 with obesity and bipolar disorder. Although ETV5 is noted for its involvement in cancer biology and other disorders, it is not, at present, a direct therapeutic target or clinically used biomarker[1][2][3][4][5][6].
