ETS1 antisense RNA 1 (ETS1-AS1) is a long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from the promoter region of the ETS1 gene, often referred to as a "promoter-associated noncoding RNA" (pancEts-1 or ETS1-AS1). It is distinct from the ETS1 protein, a well-characterized transcription factor, and instead represents a regulatory RNA molecule. ETS1-AS1 does not encode a protein. Rather, it is believed to modulate gene expression—particularly that of ETS1—through transcriptional and/or epigenetic regulation, potentially by recruiting chromatin-modifying complexes or acting as a scaffold for other regulators. While the detailed biological role of ETS1-AS1 is still under research, similar antisense lncRNAs are often implicated in cancer biology, either by regulating oncogene or tumor suppressor expression. The literature primarily discusses ETS1-AS1 within the scope of ETS1 transcriptional regulation and tumor biology. At present, ETS1-AS1 is not a direct therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or classic druggable protein, and there are no known drugs or biomarker uses directly tied to it. However, as a noncoding RNA involved in cancer-associated regulatory networks, it could be a subject of future therapeutic interest. Note: The target described here is ETS1-AS1, a non-protein-coding RNA, which should not be confused with the ETS1 protein (the canonical transcription factor and a recognized therapeutic target in oncology and immunology)[1][2][5].
