Overview

ETS2 pseudogene 1 (ETS2P1) is a noncoding DNA sequence located on the X chromosome that closely resembles the functional ETS2 gene but contains mutations that prevent it from producing a functional protein[1][3]. Pseudogenes, such as ETS2P1, arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition and typically do not serve as direct therapeutic targets because they are unable to encode proteins or perform biological actions[3]. Although most pseudogenes are regarded as nonfunctional, a small number can exert regulatory effects in certain contexts, but there is no known evidence that ETS2P1 plays such a role[3]. Key point: ETS2P1 is a pseudogene and not a therapeutically relevant target, nor does it encode a functional protein. All relevant therapeutic functions and disease associations pertain to the canonical ETS2 gene, not the pseudogene[1][3][4].

Other names
ETS2P1
02

Mechanism of action

None (no mechanisms of drug action apply to pseudogenes)

03

Biological functions

None established (pseudogenes typically do not encode functional proteins and therefore usually do not have direct biological functions[3])
04

Disease associations

None established for ETS2P1; the functional ETS2 gene is implicated in cancer and other diseases, but not its pseudogene[1][2][4]
05

Safety considerations

None (pseudogenes pose no specific therapeutic safety issues)
06

Interacting drugs

None (no drugs target ETS2P1; pseudogenes are almost never drug targets[3])
07

Biomarkers

None (ETS2P1 is not used as a biomarker)
