Target intelligence / Profile preview

Euchromatic histone-lysine N-methyltransferase 2 (G9a)

Target
G9a
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Histone modification, Histone-Lysine N-Methyltransferase
01

Overview

EHMT2 (G9a) is a histone methyltransferase enzyme that primarily catalyzes the mono- and di-methylation of lysine 9 on histone H3 (H3K9me1 and H3K9me2), which are epigenetic marks associated with transcriptional repression. It is involved in gene silencing, DNA methylation, cell proliferation, and apoptosis. Dysregulation of EHMT2 is implicated in several cancers.
