Eukaryotic Elongation Factor 2 (eEF2)

Target
eEF2

GTP-binding protein, Translation Elongation Factor
01

Overview

Eukaryotic elongation factor 2 (eEF2) is a highly conserved, essential protein involved in the process of protein synthesis in eukaryotic cells. It catalyzes the GTP-dependent translocation step during mRNA translation on the ribosome, specifically moving two tRNAs and mRNA after peptidyl transfer on the 80S ribosome. The function of eEF2 is tightly regulated primarily through post-translational modifications like phosphorylation and ADP-ribosylation. Aberrant expression or regulation of eEF2 has been linked with various cancers. Inactivation via bacterial toxins leads directly to disease symptoms due to loss of cellular protein production capacity.
