Overview

Eukaryotic elongation factor 2 lysine methyltransferase (EEF2KMT) is a protein-lysine N-methyltransferase enzyme that catalyzes the trimethylation of eukaryotic elongation factor 2 (EEF2) specifically at lysine 525[2][3][6][7]. Belonging to the FAM86 family and the S-adenosyl-L-methionine-dependent methyltransferase superfamily, EEF2KMT is predicted to reside in the cytoplasm and participate as part of larger protein-containing complexes[7]. The methylation of EEF2 at this lysine residue by EEF2KMT may influence the function of elongation factor 2 in protein synthesis, potentially regulating translation efficiency or fidelity[2][6][7]. While its biological function includes peptidyl-lysine trimethylation and protein methylation, the current literature does not establish EEF2KMT as a major therapeutic target in human disease, and no drugs or established disease biomarkers are linked to it as of now. There are no specific safety concerns or therapeutic challenges reported for this enzyme[2][3][6][7].
