Eukaryotic translation elongation factor 1 alpha 1 (eEF1A1) is a highly conserved GTPase and a key component of the protein synthesis machinery in eukaryotes. It catalyzes the GTP-dependent binding of aminoacyl-tRNA to the A-site of the ribosome during the elongation phase of translation[1][6]. Beyond its canonical role, eEF1A1 regulates the actin cytoskeleton, participates in targeting misfolded proteins for degradation, acts as a coactivator of certain receptors, and contributes to stress response and heat shock protein induction[1][2][3]. eEF1A1 is involved in viral replication and has a documented role as an autoantigen in some autoimmune diseases, while its dysregulation has been implicated in cancer and in resistance to apoptosis[1][3]. Therapeutic targeting is theoretically possible but is complicated by its central cellular functions and safety concerns.
