Overview

Eukaryotic translation elongation factor 1 alpha 1 pseudogene 1 (EEF1A1P1) is a processed pseudogene derived from the EEF1A1 gene, which encodes a key translation elongation factor involved in the delivery of aminoacyl-tRNAs to the ribosome during protein synthesis[2][4]. EEF1A1P1 itself does not encode a functional protein and is considered a non-coding genomic element. While the parent gene EEF1A1 has a critical role in cellular biology and disease, including cancer, pseudogenes like EEF1A1P1 have not established direct molecular or disease functions and are not therapeutic targets[4]. The human genome contains a large number of EEF1A1-related pseudogenes, often classified as "retropseudogenes." Most are uncharacterized and lack experimental evidence of function[4]. Pseudogenes can occasionally exert regulatory effects (e.g., via RNA interference or as microRNA decoys), but there is no evidence that EEF1A1P1 has such activity[4]. Only the EEF1A1 gene itself (not the pseudogene) is studied extensively in protein synthesis, stress responses, and diseases[1][3][5].
