Overview

Eukaryotic translation elongation factor 1 alpha 1 pseudogene 18 (EEF1A1P18) is one of at least 42 known pseudogenes related to the canonical EEF1A1 gene, which encodes a key translation elongation factor responsible for the delivery of aminoacyl-tRNAs to the ribosome during protein synthesis[1][3]. Pseudogenes such as EEF1A1P18 arise from duplication or retrotransposition events and typically do not produce functional proteins. Their biological significance and involvement in disease remain uncharacterized, and EEF1A1P18 is not known to be expressed or to play a direct role in any physiological or pathological process[1][5]. Unlike its parent gene EEF1A1, which is essential for cell growth, proliferation, and several diseases including cancer[1][3], EEF1A1P18 remains a genetically annotated but functionally silent locus.
