Overview

Eukaryotic translation elongation factor 1 alpha 1 pseudogene 32 (EEF1A1P32) is an unprocessed pseudogene located at chromosome 1q31.3 in humans[2]. It is one of many pseudogenes derived from the EEF1A1 gene, which encodes a subunit of the elongation factor-1 complex involved in the translation elongation step of protein biosynthesis. As a pseudogene, EEF1A1P32 contains DNA sequences similar to the functional EEF1A1 gene but is not believed to produce a functional protein. Most EEF1A1 pseudogenes have arisen via retrotransposition or gene duplication and do not encode proteins, though some pseudogene transcripts may have regulatory roles. EEF1A1P32 itself has been cited in genomic studies of certain cancers, such as oral squamous cell carcinoma, but its biological or clinical significance remains unclear[2][1]. It is not considered a drug target, receptor, enzyme, or direct biomarker for disease[1][2][3].

Biological functions

Other (as a pseudogene, does not encode a functional protein; no known direct biological function)
03

Disease associations

Other (EEF1A1P32 itself is not clearly associated with disease, but has been reported in studies of oral squamous cell carcinoma; in general, EEF1A1 pseudogenes have been detected in association with a wide variety of tumors and other conditions, generally as a result of their genomic location or indirect effects on gene regulation rather than direct activity[2].)
