EEF1A1P4 is a processed pseudogene derived from the eukaryotic translation elongation factor 1 alpha 1 gene (EEF1A1), located in the human genome and annotated as a non-coding, non-functional genetic element. While its parent gene EEF1A1 encodes a core translation factor essential for protein synthesis, the pseudogene EEF1A1P4 itself does not encode a functional protein and is not implicated in any known biological processes or diseases. The broader family of eukaryotic elongation factors, including EEF1A1, plays a key role in mRNA translation during protein biosynthesis. However, the role of their pseudogenes, including EEF1A1P4, remains largely uncharacterized and is not believed to be therapeutically relevant[1][13]. Key clarification: EEF1A1P4 should not be mistaken for the protein-coding genes EEF1A1 or EEF1A2, which do have major roles in cellular biology and disease[1][13]. The pseudogene family, to which EEF1A1P4 belongs, is generally considered non-functional, although rare exceptions exist for other genes where pseudogenes can act as regulatory RNA elements; this is not established for EEF1A1P4[1][13].
