Overview

EEF1A1P46 (eukaryotic translation elongation factor 1 alpha 1 pseudogene 46) is a human pseudogene located at chromosome 1:31487589-31488930[5][2][3]. As a pseudogene, EEF1A1P46 is a noncoding genomic segment derived from its parental gene, EEF1A1 (eukaryotic translation elongation factor 1 alpha 1), which is involved in peptide elongation during translation[4][1]. Pseudogenes like EEF1A1P46 are typically characterized as non-functional genetic elements that do not encode proteins, although emerging evidence suggests some pseudogenes may be transcribed or regulate parental gene expression at the RNA level[1][6]. However, there are no reports of EEF1A1P46 encoding a protein, acting as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or having therapeutic relevance. There is currently no established biological function, disease association, drug interaction, or biomarker utility for EEF1A1P46[1][2][3][5]. Additional context: - EEF1A1P46 is one of many processed pseudogenes derived from the highly studied EEF1A1 coding gene, which plays a canonical role in protein synthesis elongation but is not encoded or functionally contributed to by this pseudogene[1][4]. - Although some EEF1A1 pseudogenes have been explored for expression in cancer datasets, the significance, if any, of EEF1A1P46 in disease biology remains uncharacterized in the literature reviewed[1]. - The GWAS Catalog lists one association with EEF1A1P46, but does not describe a functional or pathological role[5]. EEF1A1P46 is best classified as a processed pseudogene, not a direct molecular target for drugs, diagnostics, or therapeutic intervention.
