EEF1A1P5 is a member of the eukaryotic translation elongation factor 1 alpha 1 pseudogene family. Pseudogenes are DNA sequences homologous to known genes but lack the capacity to encode functional proteins. EEF1A1P5 is related to EEF1A1, which encodes an essential GTPase involved in delivering aminoacyl-tRNAs to the ribosome during translation elongation in eukaryotes[1][3][5]. Unlike the functional EEF1A1 protein, EEF1A1P5 is not translated into protein and its biological significance remains unclear, though some studies report its overexpression in fetal tissues (trabecular meshwork and cornea) and altered copy number in oral squamous cell carcinoma and hepatocellular carcinoma. Its precise physiological relevance or disease associations are undetermined, and it is not a therapeutic target[1][3].
