Eukaryotic translation elongation factor 1 alpha 1 pseudogene 8 (EEF1A1P8) is a processed pseudogene located in the human genome (chromosome 3q27.1). It is one of many non-coding pseudogenes derived from the functional gene EEF1A1, which encodes a protein critical for the elongation step of mRNA translation. Unlike its parent gene, EEF1A1P8 does not produce a functional protein and is not involved in cellular signaling, receptor function, enzymatic activity, or transporter activity. It is not a conventional therapeutic target, and no drugs, disease associations, or biomarker roles have been directly attributed to this pseudogene. Its existence exemplifies gene evolutionary processes such as retrotransposition. The aliases EEF1AL6 and eukaryotic translation elongation factor 1 alpha-like 6 pseudogene refer to the same genetic locus.
