Eukaryotic translation elongation factor 1 beta 2 (EEF1B2) encodes the β-subunit of the eukaryotic translation elongation factor 1 (eEF1) complex, which is a core component of the protein synthesis machinery. The EEF1B2 protein functions as a guanine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF) for eEF1A, facilitating the recycling of eEF1A for consecutive rounds of translation elongation and thereby supporting efficient protein synthesis. EEF1B2 is ubiquitously expressed, emphasizing its housekeeping role, but its tight regulation is critical for cellular physiology. Altered expression or mutation of EEF1B2 is implicated in neurodevelopmental disorders, such as intellectual disability and epilepsy, and has documented interactions in cancer cells that may modulate signaling pathways like PI3K–AKT–mTOR. Thus, EEF1B2 sustains basal translational activity and integrates translational control with broader cellular signaling and regulation, with its dysregulation contributing to a range of pathological conditions
