The eukaryotic translation elongation factor 1 beta 2 pseudogene is a genomic region that closely resembles the protein-coding gene for eukaryotic translation elongation factor 1 beta 2 but contains mutations that prevent expression of a functional protein. Pseudogenes such as this may retain sequence homology to their parent genes but typically contain frameshift mutations, premature stop codons, or truncations. While most are non-functional, some pseudogenes can be transcribed and may regulate their parental genes via antisense RNA or participate in complex gene regulatory networks. There is no evidence that this pseudogene encodes an active protein or serves as a direct therapeutic target.
