The *canonical gene/protein* (EEF1D, or eukaryotic translation elongation factor 1 delta) is functional and involved in protein translation and disease, but EEF1DP4 is a *pseudogene* and does not encode a functional protein[1][4]. Pseudogenes are typically not considered therapeutic targets and are not assigned biological functions or disease associations unless shown to have regulatory effects, which is not supported for EEF1DP4[1].
