Overview

Eukaryotic translation elongation factor 1 delta pseudogene 4 (EEF1DP4) is classified as a *pseudogene*—a genomic DNA sequence similar to a gene, but non-functional as it does not encode a functional protein product[1]. Pseudogenes like EEF1DP4 are generally regarded as evolutionarily related to coding genes, but due to accumulated mutations, deletions, or insertions, they lack essential regulatory elements or coding potential necessary for gene expression and functional protein synthesis. EEF1DP4 is specifically a pseudogene of the protein eukaryotic translation elongation factor 1 delta (EEF1D), which is a component of the elongation factor 1 complex responsible for the enzymatic delivery of aminoacyl-tRNAs to the ribosome during protein synthesis[1][4]. However, as a pseudogene, EEF1DP4 does not participate in this complex, lacks known biological function, and is not recognized as a therapeutic target, enzyme, transporter, or receptor. There are no associated disease roles, interacting drugs, or biomarker functions described for EEF1DP4[1]. The *canonical gene/protein* (EEF1D, or eukaryotic translation elongation factor 1 delta) is functional and involved in protein translation and disease, but EEF1DP4 is a *pseudogene* and does not encode a functional protein[1][4]. Pseudogenes are typically not considered therapeutic targets and are not assigned biological functions or disease associations unless shown to have regulatory effects, which is not supported for EEF1DP4[1]. EEF1DP4 itself is not a relevant therapeutic target and should not be confused with the functional gene EEF1D[1][4].
