Overview

Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 1A, X-chromosomal (eIF1A) is an essential protein that participates in the initiation phase of eukaryotic translation. It is a component of the 43S pre-initiation complex, mediating the recruitment of the 40S ribosomal subunit to the 5' cap of messenger RNAs and facilitating scanning for the start codon as well as assembly of the 80S initiation complex. Mutations in this factor are recurrent in certain cancers, including uveal melanoma and thyroid carcinoma[1][2][5].
