Overview

Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 1b (EIF1B) is a protein that is encoded by the EIF1B gene in humans. It is thought to be involved in the initiation phase of protein translation by participating in the formation of the eukaryotic 43S preinitiation complex. EIF1B enables RNA binding activity and is predicted to regulate the process of translational initiation, which is essential for accurate and efficient protein synthesis. Current data do not support its status as a direct therapeutic drug target, but its function is important in basic cellular biology and disease associations include cancers such as mixed cell uveal melanoma and choroid cancer.
