Overview

Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2 subunit 2 beta pseudogene 4 (EIF2S2P4) is a human pseudogene located on chromosome 2[11]. It is a non-functional genomic element related by sequence to the protein-coding gene EIF2S2, which encodes the beta subunit of the eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2 (eIF2β)[7][9][11]. However, EIF2S2P4 itself does not encode a functional protein, lacks biological activity, and is classified as a pseudogene rather than a genuine protein-coding gene[9][11]. As such, it is not considered a therapeutic target and does not participate in molecular pathways or disease processes as a functional entity. Note: - This entry is frequently confused with EIF2S2, the protein-coding gene for eIF2β. Only EIF2S2 encodes a functional protein involved in translation initiation; EIF2S2P4 does not. - The “P4” at the end designates it as one of several pseudogenes related to EIF2S2. - No common aliases, drug interactions, diagnostic usages, or disease roles are established for this pseudogene[9][11]. Conclusion: EIF2S2P4 is a non-functional pseudogene, not a drug target, and should not be used in contexts requiring a functional translation initiation factor subunit. If a translation/initiation target is needed, refer to “Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2 subunit 2 (EIF2S2)” instead[3][9][11].
