Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2 subunit alpha (eIF-2α) is a critical regulatory component of the eIF2 heterotrimeric complex, which plays an essential role in the initiation phase of protein synthesis in eukaryotic cells. The α-subunit serves as the main regulatory site for phosphorylation events that control global protein synthesis rates in response to various cellular stresses.
