Overview

Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 3 subunit I (EIF3I) is a protein component of the eIF3 complex, which is critical for the initiation phase of eukaryotic translation. The eIF3 complex is a large, multi-subunit assembly responsible for recruiting the 40S ribosomal subunit to mRNA and facilitating the formation of the 43S pre-initiation complex, as well as mRNA scanning and recognition of the start codon. EIF3I, while evolutionarily conserved, is not essential for the basal activity of the eIF3 holo-complex but may participate in specialized regulatory functions or translational control of specific mRNAs or under particular cellular conditions. Alterations in EIF3I functions and levels have been associated with several diseases, particularly cancers, and it plays a broader role in the regulation of cell proliferation, differentiation, and programmed cell death, primarily through its functions in the regulation of protein synthesis[1][2][4].
