Overview

Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 3 subunit I pseudogene 1 (EIF3IP1) is a human pseudogene, which means it shares high sequence similarity with a functional gene (EIF3I) but encodes a non-functional, non-protein-coding transcript due to acquired mutations. Pseudogenes can sometimes give rise to non-coding RNAs that have regulatory functions, such as the production of small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) or acting as competitive endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs), thereby modulating gene expression indirectly. However, there is no evidence that EIF3IP1 serves as a conventional drug target, nor is it associated with direct disease mechanisms or used in clinical biomarker panels. EIF3IP1 is thus best classified as a pseudogene with potential, but not established, regulatory RNA functions, not as a canonical molecular target.

Biological functions

Possible regulatory function as a non-coding RNASource of endogenous small interfering RNAs (endo-siRNAs) that can regulate gene expression
03

Disease associations

No established direct role in disease; pseudogenes may contribute to gene regulation or act as decoys
