Overview

Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4A1 pseudogene (ENSG00000271118) is a DNA sequence in the human genome that is highly homologous to the functional EIF4A1 gene but is incapable of producing a functional protein product[2][5]. Pseudogenes, such as this, arise by duplication or retrotransposition events and generally accumulate mutations that prevent their transcription or translation into functional proteins[2][5]. While most pseudogenes are considered nonfunctional, some may be transcribed into non-coding RNAs with potential regulatory roles, though this has not been conclusively demonstrated for this specific locus[5][8]. This pseudogene is not considered a therapeutic target, is not cataloged with interacting drugs, and does not play a direct role in disease mechanisms or drug discovery.
