Overview

Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4A1 pseudogene 4 (EIF4A1P4) is a processed pseudogene derived from the parental EIF4A1 gene, which encodes a component of the eukaryotic translation initiation complex. Processed pseudogenes like EIF4A1P4 generally lack the ability to produce a functional protein due to accumulated mutations or incomplete gene structure (such as missing promoters or introns). There is no evidence to date that EIF4A1P4 expresses functional RNA or protein, nor does it play a known direct role in human disease or pharmacology[3]. Pseudogenes, in a broader sense, can sometimes participate in gene regulation via RNA-mediated mechanisms, but EIF4A1P4 itself is not described as functional in this context in current scientific literature[3][6].\n\nKey note: There may be confusion between EIF4A1P4 and the parental gene EIF4A1, which is a bona fide helicase involved in translation; however, EIF4A1P4 itself is just a nonfunctional genomic relic. No drugs, biomarkers, or therapeutic interactions are known for this pseudogene, and it is not considered a receptor, enzyme, or any other conventional drug target class[3].
