It was first identified in 1996, is highly expressed in human primary monocytes, and has been reported in association with several diseases such as rectum cancer, multiple myeloma, schizophrenia, and hepatocellular carcinoma, though its contribution to these diseases is unknown and it is not a recognized clinical biomarker or therapeutic target[2].
