Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4A2 pseudogene 1 (EIF4A2P1) is a genomic sequence with high similarity to the coding gene for eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4A2 (EIF4A2), but EIF4A2P1 itself does not code for a functional protein. It is cataloged in genomic databases as a pseudogene: a vestigial gene that may be transcribed but is not believed to encode a functional protein or have established biological activity. There are no known roles for EIF4A2P1 in disease, cellular signaling, or as a drug target, and it should not be confused with the functional EIF4A2 gene, which is a DEAD-box family RNA helicase involved in translation initiation[4][8].
