Overview

Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4B pseudogene 4 (EIF4BP4) is a genomically encoded pseudogene related to the functional initiation factor EIF4B. Unlike EIF4B, which acts as an RNA-binding protein stimulating the helicase activity of eIF4A to promote mRNA unwinding and translation initiation, EIF4BP4 does not produce a functional protein and is not involved in translation or cellular signaling[4]. Pseudogenes like EIF4BP4 may be transcriptionally silent or occasionally transcribed as noncoding RNA, but they lack any direct protein-coding function or established role in disease biology or pharmacology.
