Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4B pseudogene 5 (EIF4BP5) is a **pseudogene**, not a functional gene, for the protein eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4B (EIF4B). EIF4B itself is a translation initiation factor involved in recruiting mRNA to the ribosome and facilitating translation initiation. However, the "pseudogene 5" indicates that EIF4BP5 is a non-coding DNA element that does not produce a functional protein and, therefore, is not a therapeutic target.
