Overview

EIF4EBP2P3 is a processed pseudogene (retrocopy) of the protein-coding gene eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E binding protein 2 (EIF4EBP2). Pseudogenes like EIF4EBP2P3 are DNA sequences that arose by duplication or retrotransposition of functional genes but lost the ability to encode a functional protein due to disabling mutations. The majority of pseudogenes do not produce functional proteins and are considered nonfunctional "genomic fossils." Rarely, some pseudogenes may have regulatory functions at the RNA level (such as producing noncoding RNAs that influence gene expression), but specific biological roles are generally not assigned unless experimentally validated, which is not the case for EIF4EBP2P3. Consequently, this pseudogene is not considered a direct target for drug development or disease therapy.
