Overview

Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E family member 2 pseudogene 1 (EIF4E2P1) is a processed pseudogene derived from the protein-coding gene EIF4E2, which encodes a member of the eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E (eIF4E) family[1][7]. EIF4E2P1 is a non-coding DNA segment that closely resembles the functional EIF4E2 gene but does not produce a functional protein product. It is classified as a retrocopy—a genomic segment formed by reverse transcription of mRNA and insertion into a new genomic location. While some pseudogenes can occasionally acquire regulatory functions or serve as molecular decoys, no protein product or functional role has been established for EIF4E2P1. Consequently, it is not considered a therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, or involved in any major biological or disease processes at this time[1][6][7].
