Overview

Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E family member 2 pseudogene 2 (EIF4E2P2) is a nonfunctional pseudogene in the human genome. It shows sequence homology to the functional EIF4E2 gene but contains mutations or defects that render it incapable of encoding a protein. Pseudogenes like EIF4E2P2 can arise through duplication or retrotransposition events but generally lack regulatory sequences or suffer disabling mutations. While pseudogenes occasionally give rise to functional RNAs or acquire regulatory roles, there is no evidence that EIF4E2P2 produces any transcriptionally active or functional products[8].
